Central Tyre Inflation System

Flotation tyres are now very much the norm but are generally inflated to pressures as high as 75 psi so they can carry loads of 16-18 tonnes safely on the road.

Running the tyres at these higher pressure settings means that we are not using the tyre technology to its maximum and losing most of the benefits associated with the tyre design when using them in the field. Operating the tyres at high pressures in the field results in reduced traction, soil compaction and increased fuel consumption.

With our CTI system, the operator can rapidly reduce the trailer’s tyres to a field inflation level, which makes the trailer easier to tow off-road and reduces compaction, and then quickly inflate the tyres for road transport. When leaving the field, the system returns to the pre-set inflation level for the road. Higher tyre pressure on the road makes the trailer easier to pull, reduces tyre wear and again saves fuel.

Features

Single Line CTI System

We chose a single-line CTI system because it constantly monitors the tyre inflation levels and adjusts them if necessary. If, for example, you have a slow leak in one tyre, the system will maintain it at the target pressure and alert you to the fact that you have a problem.

One Pre-Set Field Inflation Level

The system has one pre-set field inflation level and one road transport inflation level. These levels are set in the factory but if the operator wants to change them, they can recalibrate the settings.

Quick Inflation

Our CTI system has a quick inflation rate; the tyres can be inflated from field pressure to a useable road pressure within 45 seconds.

Road Pressure

Operators can start to inflate the tyres while still in the field so, when they reach the gate, the tyres are already up to road pressure.

Speed Sensor

The system has a speed sensor that automatically detects if the operator forgets to inflate the tyres when leaving the field. A built-in safety system sounds an alarm and the system automatically starts to inflate the tyres when the trailer reaches a pre-set road speed.

Compressors

If the system is fitted to a two-axle trailer, the trailer is fitted with four air tanks that are filled by the tractor’s compressor. Three-axle trailers are fitted with their own hydraulically-driven compressor which inflates the tyres up to maximum road pressure even more quickly.

Controller / Monitor

Our CTI system has an in-cab controller/monitor.
