Livestock Floats

We manufacture livestock floats for commercial vehicles for cattle, sheep or pigs. The commercial livestock floats are designed and manufactured to order. They are fabricated in aluminium; either using aluminium plank sections or from aluminium sheets riveted to aluminium posts. These floats may be fitted with hydraulic ramps, hydraulic decks, folding decks, single section decks, hydraulic or spring assisted rear doors, drinking systems and extractor fans. Partitions may be fixed or adjustable sections. These floats are paint finished and may be supplied with a set of stands if required.

We fabricate flat bodies on commercial vehicles suitable for carrying your new Stewart float and manufacture drawbar trailers to order.

Longthorne of Hebden Float

Longthorne of Hebden, 13.9m 2/4 deck livestock transporter

Longthorne of Hebden’s 13.9m livestock transporter is built to carry four decks of sheep or two decks of cattle. The all aluminium container, built on to an SDC chassis, is fitted with hydraulically operated run-up ramps, a hydraulically powered back door ramp and a pressurised drinker system.

The hydraulic ramps and doors are operated by a remote handset so the operator is free to move around the vehicle supervising the movement rather than having to operate the controls from a fixed point. The hydraulic systems make loading and unloading the livestock much easier, and the operators job a great deal safer. Another feature that makes loading easier is that the cattle ramp to the second deck is 12 feet long, reducing the loading angle to under 26 degrees.

The container is fitted with two temperature sensors situated near the middle of each cattle deck. There are twenty fans on the driver’s side, five on each sheep deck. The sensors and fans are controlled from the truck cab via a blue tooth connection. The driver is able to monitor the temperature in the livestock pens, and if necessary, switch on the fans. The fans extract warm, stale air from the container at a rate of 690m³ per hour. The fans are particularly useful when the vehicle is stationary and the animals can be susceptible to over-heating.
